Essays

Here are select essays I have written for school,
for fun or for an application of some sort.

Final Research Proposal
As a Boren Fellow in the final phases of my masters program at SIT Graduate Institute, I am living and working in Senegal where I will be conducting qualitative research. The title of this research is: Tostan’s Social Mobilization Agents: Motives and Methods of Organized Diffusion in Senegal.

Gender and Development
Serving as a final paper for my Independent Study on Development and Gender at SIT Graduate Institute, I go through the history of gender and women in development work. I wrote this paper in May 2015.

What is Development?
This essay was written in January 2015 for an Independent Study on Development and Gender at SIT Graduate Institute. The first portion of my study was to research and assess the history of development and my role as a practitioner.

Boren Essay Fellowship, Essay 1, 2 and 3
These are a series of three essays for my application to be a 2015-2016 David L. Boren Fellow in Senegal. They were crafted between December 2014 and January 2015. The essays range from explaining my proposed plan of study and work, goals I will have on this endeavor and how my skills will help the US government.

N'dep Ceremony
This was an essay written November 2011 while traveling through West Africa for my Independent Study Abroad project. It is meant to be in story format. The original was in French but it has been translated for the purpose of this blog. The video's are NOT edited in anyway and uploaded directly from my camera.
